Un par de batidos (milkshakes)

Luke... ¡dame mi batido! - Luke... gimme my milkshake!

(English version below)

A couple of milkshakes

Today I must confess than I'm addicted to milkshakes. Pretty much to all of them. And thanks that I like them, because they are the only human way for me to drink a glass of milk. I hate milk more than I hate my worst enemy (but less than mushrooms, of course) but together with a couple of strawberries, a banana or some raspberries we become friends immediately.

I don't care if it's winter or summer to drink a huge and fresh milkshake but it seems it's a proper moment to post them now that the summer finally arrived to Cardamomland. So here I bring you two that I've always liked; the second one is my favorite forever and ever and the first one was in my top ten before the kiwis decided to leave me alone for good. I see them in the supermarket, so beautiful and expensive... my inner devil tells me that I should buy them, no stupidities, but finally my angel saves me sentencing: “allergy!!!”

Let's go!

Strawberry and kiwi milkshake with vanilla ice cream

Ingredients (makes 1 huge milkshake):

4 strawberries
1 kiwi
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
200 ml milk
1 tsp sugar

Modus operandi:

1. Blend all the ingredients together and serve immediately. You can decorate the glass with a slice of kiwi and a strawberry.

*The quantity of sugar might change depending on the sourness of the fruits, you can start with no sugar at all (ice cream already has some) and add some later.

Banana, Greek yogurt and cinnamon milkshake

Ingredients (makes 1 huge milkshake):

1 banana
200 ml milk
100 g Greek yogurt
¼ tsp cinnamon
Dark chocolate

Modus operandi:

1. Place a couple of chocolate squares in a dessert dish and melt it in the microwave for some seconds. Place the milkshake glass upside down on the dish so the rim gets covered by chocolate.

2. Blend the rest of ingredients together and serve immediately in the prepared glass. You can decorate with some cinnamon.

Otra de yogures (Yogurt parfait)

(English version below)

More yogurts. This is the second post in a row about yogurts and there is still one more coming. No, it’s not because of a supermarket offer… as I told you, when I get a new idea I’m horrible and now it’s time for yogurts. That’s it.

The recipe of yogurt parfait is very flexible. The only rule is to alternate some layers of yogurt with fruit, cereals, nuts, chocolate, etc. This one I show you here today is my favorite combination, but there are thousands of options. It can be a very light recipe if you use nonfat instead of Greek yogurt, replace the bananas with another fruit with less sugar and remove chocolate and walnuts.

But today is sauna day so… I don’t care!

Yogurt parfait

Ingredients (serves 2):

300 ml sweetened Greek yogurt

2 bananas

2 oranges

1 handful of raspberries

1 little handful of peeled walnuts

30 g dark chocolate (70%)

1 g agar-agar

Optional: chocolate syrup

Modus operandi:

1. Squeeze the oranges and put the juice to heat in a small saucepan. When it starts to boil, add the agar-agar and stir for 1 minute. Pour the juice into a bowl and let it cool down for 20 – 30 minutes until it sets.

2. Peel and cut the bananas and wash the raspberries. Chop the walnuts as you like and cut or grate the chocolate (I rather to cut it so I can get bigger pieces). Mash the orange gelatin with a fork (you can also cut it with a knife if you want to get gelatin dices).

3. Prepare the parfaits in transparent glasses of parfait dishes. You can decorate them with a little chocolate syrup before adding the rest of the ingredients (optional). Alternate some layers of yogurt, fruit, walnuts, gelatin and chocolate. Finish with a yogurt layer decorated with more chocolate, couple raspberries, a little gelatin, some mint leaves…

I’m leaving to sauna, do you join?

Limones (Yogurt, lime and poppy seeds loaf)

(English version below)

Lemons

I don’t know why they don’t sell lemon yogurts in Finland. Actually they don’t offer any kind of lemon flavoured desserts and not even Lemon Fanta (registered trademark and bla bla bla). That should be conscientiously analyzed. How is it possible that a monstrously international company as Coca Cola doesn’t sell one of its star products in the country of impossible beverages? You can find soft drinks, juices… with any flavour you can imagine, but not Lemon Fanta. Fascinating. I love this country.

However, I’m not so happy about the lack of lemon yogurts because it messes up my plan of 1 yogurt, 1 yogurt cup of oil, 2 yogurt cups of sugar (1-2-3 cake)… you know. Besides, the size of yogurts here is far from those commercialized in Spain. When I check some of their products in supermarkets I can understand why when I go to gigs, my eyes are at the same level with their shoulders. Well, that invention of measuring the ingredients with the yogurt cup doesn’t work here either.

Don’t panic. I’ve measured the yogurt cups and I’ve translated them to grams, so those in the same situation don’t desperate. And even better, we are going to turn that classic into a cooler not lemon-but lime poppy seeds loaf.

Yogurt, lime and poppy seeds loaf

Ingredients:

200 g plain flour

200 g caster sugar (plus some more for dusting)

110 g natural yogurt

85 g sunflower oil (plus some more for greasing)

3 large eggs

16 g baking powder

2 tbsp poppy seeds

Grated zest of 2 limes

Modus operandi:

1. Preheat the oven to 180 C.

2. Put the eggs and the sugar in a large bowl. Mix with a hand-held electric whisk for some minutes, to introduce some air to the mixture.

3. Add the yogurt and oil and mix gently. In another bowl, mix the flour and the baking powder and add that mixture to the other bowl. Mix with a whisk until all ingredients are combined.

4. Add the grated zest of the limes and the poppy seeds. Mix a little bit so they are evenly spaced throughout the mixture.

5. Grease a baking tin with sunflower oil and pour the batter into it. Dust with some sugar over the batter and bake for 30 – 40 minutes. The loaf will be ready when a stick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Mission accomplished.
