Una de eurofrikismo (salmon and potato salad with mustard and lemon vinaigrette)

(English version below)

Party for everybody!

“Eurofreakism”

Today I must confess... that I'm addicted to Eurovision. Yep, I never miss the event and I love betting the points of each country and playing Risk. I always have fun and finally I don't care so much who wins or looses or that Spain is the last or Finland doesn't go over the semifinals. But yesterday it was pretty boring. We knew who was going to win, who was going to loose and we got almost all the points right. But there were two magic moments: the Russian grandmas baking pastries (party for everybody!) and the points of Finland (of course).

Because the rest of Europe try to look great with beautiful backgrounds and pretty people for the “twelve points” and here comes Finland with the monster that gave them their only victory. And what a victory. They made a score record and the next year Helsinki managed an unforgettable gala. I'm sure next year Sweden will try to do something memorable.

Don't waste your time. There will never be a more genuine gala than Finnish one. Instead of showing the beauty-bucolic side of the country, Alvar Aalto's buildings or some other typical stuff, Finland started this way.

Ole.

To celebrate it, here you have this after-festival salad, made with two ingredients that Finns (and Swedes) love: salmon and potatoes.

Salmon and potato salad with mustard and lemon vinaigrette

Ingredients:

400 g fresh salmon

500 g new potatoes

½ red onion

1 tbsp capers

100 ml extra virgin olive oil (and a little more to fry the salmon)

30 ml lemon juice

1 tbsp old style Dijon mustard

Grinded black pepper

Salt

Modus operandi:

1. Preheat the oven to 180 C.

2. Clean the potatoes and boil them in plenty of salted water until tender. Reserve.

3. On the other side, season the salmon with salt and pepper and lightly fry it for some seconds with a bit of olive oil. Place it in a baking tray and bake it for around 10 - 12 minutes. When lukewarm, remove the skin of the salmon and flake it with your fingers.

4. In a bowl, mix the oil, lemon, mustard and a pinch of salt with a whisk.

5. Place in a dish the potatoes, cut in half, the flaked salmon, some onion rings and the capers. Dress the salad with the vinaigrette.

Party for everybody!

Anti-Valentín (spaghetti all’arrabbiata with albacore and capers)

(English version below)

Mi no entender.

Spaghetti all’arrabbiata con bonito y alcaparras

Anti-Valentine

I don’t intend to spoil the fun but I think Saint Valentine´s Day is deadly boring. Everybody reach the agreement to be romantic, buy the same gifts, go out for dinner to the same place at the same time, with that mass-produced “neverending love” smile… Boooooring. And even more, the day looks simply kitsch: pink frosting, hearts, laces… Agh. Another negative connotation is that some people take this really seriously and if it happens that they are alone that day, they feel bad.

Sick. I-do-not-understand.

I won’t go over the cliché that love should be celebrated every day and bla bla bla. I really don’t like this celebration. So I’m in a love strike today and that´s why I bring you the least aphrodisiac recipe in the world, with a garlic smell that could easily kill a genuine vampire (yeah, I don’t mean those glitter teen vampires, I mean the great, one and only, Stoker’s Dracula), anti-love, anti-passion and of course anti-“happy ending”… or not. Because dear friends of mine, if your valentine kisses you after eating one of these… THAT´s true love.

Spaghetti all’arrabbiata with albacore and capers

Ingredients (serves 2):

160 g spaghetti

500 g tomatoes

120 g canned albacore in olive oil

1 tbsp capers

2 garlic cloves

2 dry cayenne peppers

Salt

Caster sugar

Extra virgin olive oil

Oregano or basil

Modus operandi:

1. Wash the tomatoes and blend them using a robot (or a powerful blender). Chop finely the garlic and the cayenne peppers.

2. Heat a small pot and cover the bottom with olive oil. Add the garlic and the cayenne peppers. When the garlic is golden, pour the blended tomatoes into the pot and add a teaspoon of salt, a teaspoon of sugar and a bit oregano or basil. Let it cook all together at low heat for 1 hour and half.

3. Boil the spaghetti in plenty of salty water until al dente. Drain them, add some olive oil drops and place them in the dishes. Add some spicy tomato sauce, couple albacore chunks and some capers.

As I said: true love.
